Barton Wins Attempted Murder Conviction In Dodson Case

A DeSoto County jury handed District Attorney Matthew Barton a victory this week in his first trial case, returning a guilty verdict of attempted murder against a Memphis man who shot at a Southaven police officer during an auto burglary.

Kyle Dodson, 21, of Memphis was found guilty of attempted murder on Tuesday and could face a life sentence. The jury also found Dodson guilty of conspiracy to illegally take a motor vehicle, but found him not guilty of conspiracy to commit murder.

Barton, who campaigned on a promise to crack down on criminals  from Memphis committing crimes in DeSoto County, said he singled out this case to prosecute personally because it involved a Memphis criminal who shot at a police officer.
