HERNANDO, Miss. – District Attorney Matthew Barton announced today, May 14, 2024, a 12-person DeSoto County Jury deliberated for 105 minutes before handing down a verdict, finding Marcus Fields, 34, of Horn Lake, guilty of armed robbery and aggravated assault.
On July 14, 2022, Marcus Fields held the Neighborhood Walmart Money Center in Horn Lake at gun point with a semiautomatic firearm. Fields used a note, saying: “Don’t make me kill you. Give me all the money.”, demanding the associate hand over the cash drawer. Fields was able to flee with more than $12,000 in cash, said prosecutors.
Detectives with the Horn Lake Police Department were able to identify Fields through a debit card and firearm left at the scene, as well as tacking his black Toyota Camry used to escape captured by MDOT traffic cameras.
“Our office is going to hit hard against those who endanger the lives of others in DeSoto County,” said DeSoto County District Attorney Matthew Barton. “As always, I commend my staff for relentless dedication to ensuring justice for victims and removing violent criminals from our communities.”
The Horn Lake Police Department investigated this case with assistance from investigators from the DeSoto County District Attorney’s Office. Assistant District Attorneys Andrew Willcutt and Ben Weathers prosecuted the case.
The judge presiding over the case sentenced Fields to 30 years in state prison.
