D.A. Barton Announces Indictment of Man Accused of Shooting at Olive Branch Officers

Hernando, MS – DeSoto County District Attorney Matthew Barton has announced the indictment of TOWLES, COLBY, 34, on charges related to shooting at Olive Branch Police Officers in March of this year. A Grand Jury returned an indictment for TOWLES for Attempted Murder and Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement officer [1].

“This indictment sends a loud and clear message: If you think you can get away with attacking our officers in DeSoto County, think again,” said D.A. Matthew Barton. “Our office, together with the Olive Branch Police Department, took swift, decisive action. Their incredible police work and our top-notch prosecutors made sure this criminal was investigated and indicted at incredible speed.”

According to the indictment and court documents, TOWLES is accused of shooting at officers during a traffic stop on state Highway 302 near the intersection with the Craft-Goodman Frontage Road about 1:45 a.m.

D.A. Matthew Barton thanked the Olive Branch Police Department and the U.S. Marshals for their meticulous investigative and police work. Assistant D.A. Gordon Shaw and Assistant D.A. Rosharwin Williams are handling the prosecution of this case.
