Man Accused of Shooting at Officers Faces New Charges, $1M Bond

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. (WMC) – The man accused of shooting at Olive Branch police officers is now facing upgraded charges.

Colby Alan Towles, 34, appeared in court Tuesday.

Towles was previously charged with two counts of aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer, which carries up to 30 years for each count.

He is now charged with two counts of attempted murder of a police officer and conspiracy.

He’s being held on a $1 million bond.

Desoto County District Attorney Matthew Barton says he aims to set an example that in DeSoto County you can’t shoot at officers and get away with it.

“I hope they are keeping score at home and paying attention at what’s happening to these guys before they start doing his nonsense,” Barton said. “You’re not going to do this in DeSoto County and think you’re going to go home with your family and eat dinner. We are going to lock you up and keep you locked up.”

On the morning of March 11, Olive Branch police say Towles pulled up while officers had someone else pulled over during a traffic stop.
