Southaven Police Officer Pegrim Honored With First Behind the Badge Award by DA Barton

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A Southaven Officer who was ambushed during an attempted car theft in Southaven was given the first “Behind the Badge” Award by District Attorney Matthew Barton.

In March 2023, Officer Chase Pegrim spotted a stolen Nissan Maxima and came across several individuals attempting to steal another vehicle. Pegrim got out of his car to deploy stop sticks when he was ambushed from behind by gun gunfire from Kyle Dodson, who had brought a gun and served as the lookout. Pegrim returned fire and Dodson was subsequently hit in the ankle during the ensuing exchange of gunfire. Two other suspects fled, but were later arrested in Memphis and are awaiting trial.

Dodson was  found guilty last week of attempted murder and sentenced to 38 years in prison without possibility of parole. It was Barton’s first jury trial since being sworn in as the new district attorney.
